Sorry for the hiatus. I can't promise that I am back for good...two babies and an addiction to facebook creates no time to blog.

The kids are growing! Teegen is 26 months and full of herself. I simply cannot keep up with her language development. She told her teddy bear tonight "Don't worry George, I come get you."It seems like yesterday, she was saying her first word. She is so much fun...strongwilled and sassy, but so much fun.

Xander is the sweetest soul. He is laidback and so very Zen. I often think that he and Teegen are yin and yang. They interact so well and laugh whenever the other is around. I am sure that soon they will start trading blows!

The adoption community has been rocked by the actions of one adoptive mother. JCIS has asked families to share the truth about adoption; domestic or international, as a part of their "We are the Truth" campaign.

Here is our story:

Throughout my life, one of the steadfast truths I've known as been that I would one day be a mother. My career path changed many times, but I always knew the ultimate job would be as someone's mom. Larry and I decided before we were married that children would be a part of our lives; we just didn't know how they would get here. Diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome at 18, I had been told when I was ready to get pregnant all I would need would be a few fertility pills and 9 months later, parenthood would be a reality. I was told wrong!

Three rounds of Clomid wreaked havoc on my emotions and had the potential to do the same to our marriage. As I pulled the covers over my head, sinking into a deep depression during the third try of Clomid, I realized that I didn't need to physically give birth to become a parent. Somewhere, there was a child meant to be ours. Thus began our journey on the roller coaster of adoption.

In March of 2007, Larry and I officially began our adoption journey, hoping that at the end of the line, we would become parents to a beautiful child from Vietnam. But the universe had other plans. A series of problems, catastrophes and the closing of Vietnam adoptions in the United States set us on a course towards domestic adoption, an idea that I had initially shunned without question.

The road of domestic adoption was not smooth either. But in May 2008, we found the agency that was a perfect fit for us. And six weeks later, we walked into a neonatal ICU and laid eyes on the most beautiful creature ever. I had worried that I wouldn't feel a connection to her, but the minute I laid eyes on that small bundle with a red bow glued on her head, I was hopelessly in love. Without a doubt, I was her mother and she was my child. In that instant, Teegen became the center of our world.

Just when I thought our hearts couldn't hold any more love, I found myself in a paper gown outside of an operating room in Las Vegas, listening to my son take his first breath, screaming loud enough to let the tourists on the strip know of his arrival. Once again, Larry and I had been entrusted to care for an amazingly beautiful soul.

We have had our share of difficulties throughout the journey. But in the end, we're blessed with two miracles who bring an amazing amount of love, light and smiles into our world.

2009 in review

Wow! What a year we have had! This time last year, we were settling in as a family of three. Early in January, we travelled out West to finalize T's adoption and have a short family vacation as well. By the time we headed home, I was tired of travelling, rental cars and snow. Very soon after we return, we found out that we would grow to a family of four much quicker than we had imagined. Here's a bit of a recap in pictures:

The day we waited for throughout the year...William Michael Alexander arrives. Xander weighed in at 9 lbs. For Teegen, it was love at first sight. She loved her baby brother from the get-go.

We are adjusting to life as a family of four and adjusting to our new schedule that has Larry running Daddy Day Care during the week. Teegen dresses as a Penguin for Halloween and Xander dresses as a baby. We also welcomed our new nephew, Dylan this month. He and Xander are only one week apart.

What an incredible year! Finally, a picture of them together.

What a truly incredible year! This time last year, I would never imagine that we would have been blessed with another child. And never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that being a mother would be such an amazing job. I'm so fortunate to be their mother.

Last night, I reflected back on the last decade...what a rollercoaster ride. In that time period, I finished graduate school, met Larry, bought a house, got married, lost my stepmother, change jobs three times, welcome a new niece and nephew, start an international adoption, cry a million tears when that international adoption was no longer an option, pick up the pieces and decide that we should try domestic adoption, fall madly in love with my gorgeous daughter and cry like baby as I heard my son take his first breath. What an amazing ten years.

As I look forward to 2010, I've tried not to make any resolutions, but know that there are areas in my life that I would like to work on. Larry and I are trying very hard to work on budgeting and finances...two adoptions in 18 months can take its toll. I'm also tring to work on writing more. I would really like to develop something concerning domestic adoption. Having been on both sides of the adoption fence, meaning international versus domestion, I feel that at times, domestic adoption gets a bad rap. I think that there is a certain stigma that needs to be tackled head on. I would like to help educate others on the miracle of domestic adoption. And I also think that putting our story on paper will be so so so beneficial to my children in the future.

But my biggest goal this year is to not sweat the small stuff, enjoy my children and husband and enjoy life. It is too short not to.

Waking up in Vegas

We've been in Vegas going on three days now and just wanted everyone to know we made it here safely. For those of you that don't know, we are in Vegas to welcome the newest member of our family. Right now we are playing the waiting game and enjoying the time together.

Our trip out was uneventful, with only a little bit of screaming from Teegen on the plane. We lucked out at the rental car counter and we were upgraded from a sedan to a mini van, which looks pretty classy when you are driving down the strip! So far, we've only driven through the bright lights once. Teegen was less than impressed and far preferred the french fries I was feeding her.

Yesterday, we got incredibly lost while trying to get to a meeting with our birthmother. Lucky for me, Larry has patience of steel. Me, on the other hand, I was cursing within 15 minutes. We did however, successfully navigate to my favorite store ( the one with the big red bullseye) without a problem. I contribute that to my keen shopping senses. And just my luck, there is a giant outlet mall right across from the hotel.

Right now, we are waiting, waiting, and waiting some more. Hopefully the new baby will arrive sooner, rather than later. For now, we are trying to find ways to pass the time. We might journey to the strip today and take advantage of the sights. Or we might just hang out in our room. Or maybe, just maybe, we will get a call to go to the hospital. I will keep you posted.

Hectic Life and Deja Vu?

I know that it has been ages since I posted anything here. Things have been crazy hectic here! Work has been out of control...Teegen has been sick for the entire month of July...and we are experiencing some deja vu in regards to Larry's fingerprints. Seriously...how many times does he need to be printed? So far, it is at least twice! Didn't we learn anything last time?

But a majority of our time has been occupied with our sick princess. First it was an ear infection (#7), then it was hand-foot-and mouth disease, which kept her out of child care for seven days. Just when I think we are over the hump...bam, day care calls and she has a fever of 100.3. I pick up here, take her to the doctor and anticipate an ear infection. Instead, as I am signing her into the doctor's, she started throwing up! That is something no one covers with you when you bring your new baby home! Poor thing. I ended up throwing her shirt away and she went home with only a diaper on. As she has gotten older, I've stopped carrying an extra outfit with me... guess I learned my lesson. T seems to be back to her old self. Keep us in your thoughts, as she has tubes put in her ears on Tuesday.

Somehow, I've forgotten a 12 month update, which I realized when I looked at my calendar today at work and noticed that this week she will be 13 months old!

Here's what she is up do!

She is funny! She loves to laugh and do funny things that she knows will make us laugh. She loves to laugh at the cats and poor Tobie!
Very independent. When she is playing, she wants to do things her way and there is no other way.
Still not comfortable not holding on to anything when she walks. But cruises around beautifully if there is something to hold onto.

Had her 7th ear infection this month.
Is a picky eater, which I am working on...
...but she will eat Cheerios, yogurt and fruit.

Today is Larry's first official Father's Day. I realized this morning that his first Father's Day falls on the first anniversary of signing Teegen's adoption papers. We plan on just being together today, enjoying each other's company and chasing Teegen through the house.

Reflecting on one year

Wow! What an amazing year it has been! It has been difficult for me to wrap my brain around the notion that Teegen is one year old. It seems like only yesterday Larry was calling me, letting me know that there was a baby girl waiting for us.

In preparing for Teegen's birthday, I've thought a lot about our trip out West to meet her. I've recounted the story an endless number of times in recent weeks to basically anyone who would listen. And I've been thinking a lot about Teegen's birthmother...what a monumental decision she made...and in talking with her throughout the last year, she's never regretted it.

Since I was a little girl, the one constant in my life was that I wanted to be a mother. As a teenager, when I really started processing the death of my mother, that drive became even stronger. Regardless of situations faced concerning getting pregnant and all the ups and downs of the adoption roller coaster, I always knew this dream would one day become reality.

The first few days of parenthood, beginning from when we first heard that this little girl was destined to be our daughter are literally burned into my brain. I remember every emotion, thought and image swirling in my brain. From our mad dash through the Charlotte airport to ensure that we didn't miss our flight to not eating for 14+ hours to feeling like I would surely throw up as we waited to meet Teegen's birthmother to the smell of the NICU soap are still readily available for me to conjure up at the mere thought of those days. These are all an integral part of my "birth" experience. When friends discuss their labor and birth experiences, I happily tell them mine.

The fact that I was chosen to be this little girl's mother is still so surreal to me. As surreal as it was to look at her, so pink and new and tiny, when I first laid eyes on her. She was so so so tiny and truly the miracle I had hoped for.

To say that Teegen has changed my life does not begin to describe the impact she has had on me. She is the center of my world, without a doubt. And I cannot remember what we did before she came or what life was like before. She is truly a blessing.

And to think, we may get to start this all over again in the fall!

I swear, I was just writing Teegen's 10 month update a few days ago, and already I am two weeks and one day late on getting her 11 month update out! She has officially gone from infant to toddler overnight and wow she is quick! Honestly, if I turn my head for a minute she is off attempting some daredevil feat. The other day she climbed on to a storage bin and just laughed at me.
Here is what she is doing these days:
Moving, moving, moving. She can crawl faster than most NASCAR drivers.

Teegen, Larry and I got back from the beach late Saturday night, after a long rainy week. It rained or was too cold at least 6 out of seven days. We did make it to the pool one day and to the beach finally on Friday. And that said trip to the beach resulted in a killer sunburn for dear old mom here. But there was plenty of shopping!!! I think Teegen has a whole new wardrobe. And aside from shopping, there was great food and good company. And of course plenty of pictures! Just a warning that this is pretty picture heavy!

So, today is my very first Mother's Day. There were times over the last few years that I never thought this would happen. And there have been times this year when I've looked at Teegen and wondered "When did this happen?" Yesterday, as I sat snuggling my best friend's new son, we both pondered the question of "How did we get here?" To me, it seems like only yesterday when we were riding around in her white Mustang, doing things that we knew we shouldn't be doing and listening to what was undoubtedly the best mix tape ever. And now, within the space of just over two years, we're both mommies collectively to the three cutest kids ever. (Ok, I might be a bit biased on that account.)

I am proud of many of the accomplishments I have had throughout my life. But I have never been as proud of anything in my entire life then I am at being Teegen's mom. She is without a doubt the light of my life and there are times when I look at her and realize I love her so much that my heart actually hurts, but in a good way.

Last week, I was holding her and she looked at me with her big eyes and whispered "MaMa." Talk about emotional!

What a great morning it was to wake up to Teegen's smiling face! This girl just continues to amaze me! We had a great Mother's Day morning, going to breakfast and heading to our favorite store. And Larry and Teegen gave me exactly what I wanted for the day...a Tiny Tag Charm with Teegen printed on it!

I realized yesterday that Friday marked one year since we sent in our application and profiles to the incredible agency that made our dreams come true! We can't speak highly enough about this amazing agency. They have truly become part of our family. It is amazing how things can change in one year!

Who can believe it! Teegen is already 10 months old! It is so hard to believe! She is changing everyday and is so much fun! Here's what she is up to these days!

Starting to exhibit some separation anxiety. Every morning, the teacher at day care has to show her the birds outside so I can get out the door.

Teegen and I headed to see Thorn and his mom and dad this weekend. Thorn is going to be a big brother in the next few weeks and we wanted to spend some time with them before things get hectic with the new addition. We can't wait for the newest member of this crew to arrive!

I've been promising Teegen's nine month update for awhile and I am finally getting around to obliging! Life has been very hectic the last few weeks and only promises to get even more hectic in the next few months. Bare with me while I adjust to our new routines!

So just what is Teegen doing now?

Crawling like mad...that is until she gets to something she can pull up on...then she is standing like mad.
Loves to eat! And is always eager to try something new. She will watch intently while we eat and give us the "stink eye" until we offer her a taste.
Is a big fan of yogurt.
She is becoming very temperamental and will let you know when she is not getting her way.

Happy Birthday Thorn!

Yesterday, we loaded up the car and headed to Richmond to celebrate my favorite little boy's 2nd birthday. It seems like only yesterday that Thorn was born. Where have the last two years gone? Thorn was loads of fun and his parents threw a fabulous party...not that I expected anything less. Great food, great cake, great friends, one cute 9 month old and one adorable and loving birthday boy...it really does not get any better than that.

Since this blog began, I have talked frequently about losing my mom at a young age and how that shaped the person I've become. And I've been thinking a lot lately about how it has shaped my parenting and my relationship with my daughter. Even more so today, which marks 23 years since my mother passed away.

Last year I found myself at a very low point on this day. This year I wanted to start a new tradition, particularly since I now have a daughter. Instead of having a pity party for myself, I wanted to celebrate my mom and her life. I wanted to honor the ties of mother and daughter, those of the past and those of the present.

So I took the day off, loaded Teegen into the car and surprised my grandmother at work. She was so glad to see Teegen, which brightened her day. Shocked her, but brightened her day nonetheless. After lunch with my dad, we headed to my mom's gravesite. Teegen napped, while I meditated and reflected, leaving me with a sense of peace and reassurance.

We went back to my grandmother's house to wait for her to get home from work. Teegen and I spent some time enjoying the beautiful weather, eating some banana flavored puffs and swinging on the front porch. I fed Teegen puffs and she fed them to me. She took in her surroundings and enjoyed swinging for the first time. And in those moments, I realized how deep our bond has become and how important we are to one another. It was truly amazing. And I like to think that my mom was right there with us, watching and smiling as the void left in me when she died has been filled by this new and beautiful soul.

Catching up

Last weekend, Teeg and I packed up and headed to my hometown for a birthday celebration. We met up with Leanne and Thorn for a girls weekend and had a blast. Thorn is so sweet and so smart! He has quite the vocabulary and impressed his mother and I, telling us what Mr. Hanky from South Park says. I totally love that kid! And so does Teegen! She and Thorn would get nose-to-nose and she would laugh so hard.

We were there to celebrate Ashton's 5th birthday! Ashton's mom and I have been friends since we were nine. And what a celebration at the Natural History museum. Teegen slept through the party, but Thorn loved running through the museum.

It was a great weekend. Can't wait until the next one!

This was also Teegen's first snow day. Granted we spent some time in Jackson Hole this winter, but this is the first home-grown snow fall. She sunk right into the snow, but seemed to like it.

Sorry for all of the wordless posts lately! We've been a bit busy and overwhelmed lately. More on that sooner, rather than later I hope.

Can you believe that Teegen is 8 months old already? It completely blows my mind. Eight months have gone by so quickly! Before you know it, she will be asking for the credit card.

Teegen has changed so much in the last month. And she is so funny. She has quite the sunny disposition. So what is she doing now?

For the last several week, I have been having some trouble getting Teegen to eat for me. As in baby food that I have slaved over on the weekends. Very tasty and organic baby food. She will eat for the teachers at daycare, but not at home. Until tonight...when i handed her the dish and let her hold it! She ate both peaches and peas until there was none left. Maybe I should start calling her Miss Independence.

Seven Month Update

Last Friday, Teegen hit the seven month mark...what???? Where did all that time go? She continues to grow and thrive, never ceasing to amaze me! There are times when it seems like just yesterday, I was cuddling a scrawny 4 day old in the NICU. And there are times when it feels like Teegen has always been a part of our family.

So what's she doing now? More like what is she not doing now. This girl loves to move and is always busy! While not crawling just yet, she can get where she wants to go when on the floor, either by rolling or scooting. Sometimes she will do the worm to grab a toy just out of reach. When she is sitting in your lap, she is constantly grabbing things. Larry and I are seriously considering Lasik surgery given the number of times Teegen has yanked our glasses off. One of her favorite pasttimes is hairpulling, so I am thinking of shaving my head. Funny, she doesn't seem to bother Larry's hair.

Other recent developments include:

Imitating sounds--a few of the little boys in day care with Teegen make this throaty "he-he-he" noise, which she was picked up as well. She has also started growling.
Has tried lots of new foods, including apples, pears, mangos, peas and butternut squash. She is still not crazy about anything but her bottle.
Very interested in the remote control. Thanks to YaYa, Teeg has one of her very own.
While trying to crawl, she can pull herself onto all fours and get herself into the "downward dog" yoga position.
Loves to fall asleep with her Daddy in the recliner.

Vacation Rewind

I've been meaning to write a bit about our vacation a few weeks ago, however between sleep deprivation of vacation and a recent health concern (which has turned out to be nothing so far) I've not had the chance to catch up.

Last spring, Larry and I were presented with the chance to head to Jackson Hole, Wyoming with family and friends for a snow filled vacation. Not ones to pass up a great vacation, we signed up as a couple, hoping that we would travel as three, which was obviously the case.

We were set to leave on January 3rd at 7 a.m., which was when our travel follies began. For starters, due to some staffing issues of a certain airline, we missed our first flight. So instead of arriving in Jackson Hole at 1 p.m., we left Richmond at 2 p.m. We finally got to our destination at 10 pm. The one plus of the situation was the bump to first class. Oh if I could only travel that way all the time. And Teegen was such a trooper. What a great little traveler we have!

Our original plans while out west were to leave Jackson Hole for Las Vegas on Wednesday in order to make our court day to finalize Teegen's adoption. While our bad travel karma hit again when the weather forecast called for over 20 inches of snow in Wyoming the day we were to leave. Unable to reschedule our court date, we made the decision to DRIVE TO LAS VEGAS....in one day. What were we thinking?

It actually was not too awful...okay, it was pretty awful, but Teegen did great. I think that the worst part of it was the worry that we were not going to make our court date. And literally not seeing a car for about three hours.

So we left Wyoming at 8:30 am and arrived at our hotel in Las Vegas about 11:45 pm. Finally we were able to get to bed about 12:45 am, were up at 4 am and on the road to our court date by 5:30.

At last, we were at our final destination...the courthouse. What an awesome experience! Our hearing took under thirty minutes and was highlighted by Larry forgetting our anniversary. Actually the judge was just giving him a hard time. Our attorney asked us each a few questions and then the judge entered the order of adoption. A few pictures later and we were on our way back to Vegas.

Before we left town, we stopped in at the NICU where Teegen spent the first few days of her life. It was a bit surreal to be back in the hospital and remembering all the emotions that were present in June. The NICU staff was excited to see her and how healthy she is. We were also able to stop and meet our coordinator at the adoption agency. We've emailed and talked on the phone numerous times but this was the first time we were able to meet. That meeting really brought our journey full circle.

When we were finally back in Vegas, we were simply exhausted from the events of the last few days. We planned to sight-see on Friday, but Teegen woke up with a fever, so we simply hung out in the hotel/casino all day. We took turns in the casino, hitting it big on a Star Wars Slot Machine and just relaxed. Larry even let me sneak off to watch Twilight, which I loved. The next day we headed back home, with very smooth travels.

Even though we had multiple snags in travel, it was well worth it. What an exciting adventure to add to our list of memories.

Six months already?

Our girl is growing, growing, growing. Teegen and I headed to the doctor this morning for her well-baby check up. She tipped the scales at 17 pounds, 5 ounces and was 27 inches long. She didn't stop moving while the doctor was examining her. Needless to say, she is very busy these days.

Here are some of her latest developments

She still only has two teeth, but we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of two to four more in the near future.

Teegen loves to stick out her tongue and blow raspberries. While at the doctor for her checkup, the doctor commented "Teegen, you have a big head (17 3/4 centimeters)." Upon hearing this, my precious little girl looked up at the doctor, stuck out her tongue and blew one of the biggest raspberries I have ever heard.

She is rolling over constantly and will scoot while on the floor, but only in reverse.

Teegen has finally realized that Tobie, the dog, exists. She will actually laugh out loud when Tobie comes around.

Mastered rice cereal and oatmeal, and is starting some veggies and fruit. I am attempting to make most, if not all of her food, which seems to be working so far. Sweet potatoes are her favorite.

And the crowning achievement....Teegen is now sitting up without support!!!!!

Resolutions 2009

Like I said last year, I don't typically like making resolutions. However, I found that by putting them in writing where they were easily accessible, I made myself more accountable for them.

Last year, I made 5 resolutions: To eat less sugar and work out more; Start an earnest effort to work on my license; Read at least one book a week, start playing my guitar again and to stop calling our child "Owen." So how did I do? I admit that I completely bombed eating less sugar and working out more and playing my guitar more. Neither one of those panned out. However I did pretty well on the remaining resolutions:

I started and finished the effort get my license. I am officially an LPC.
Now, by the simple notion that Teegen was female and arrived this year, we stopped calling the baby Owen. So perhaps I can't take all credit for this.
I may not have read 52 books this year, but I read 30 to 31 books this year. And with the arrival of a newborn midyear, I consider this resolution kept!

So, here it goes for my 2009 resolutions;

Number #1-- To start a more healthy lifestyle. With my new job, I should be able to get to the gym over lunch. This is something that both Larry and I have to do for ourselves and for Teegen.

Number #2 -- Work on our finances! I know that many people will focus on this over the next year or two and we have to make it a top priority. We would like to look towards a second adoption and the finances have to be in check.

Number #3 -- Try to be more "green."

Number #4 -- Read a book a week in 2009. I really want to do this one. So it might be a resolution until I actually accomplish it.

2008 -- The Year in Review

I really meant to get this posted before 2009, but that didn't happen. I am still trying to adapt to the notion that with an infant, things don't always get done when you would like them to.

Here is a brief recap of our year:

January-- January started on several high notes. We welcomed the beautiful Annagrace into the family and saw our dossier finally head to the Vietnamese Consulate. Bad news came when we were told there was no way we would finish with the adoption of a child from Vietnam.

February-- We jumped head first into the world of domestic adoption, continuing to work with a local agency.

March-- March consisted of lots of waiting! We did celebrate Thorn's first birthday and I went back to school in an effort to finish the requirements needed for my counseling license.

April-- This month we celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary, watched one of my cousins get married and signed with an adoption agency "somewhere out west."

May-- May seems like a whirlwind. We celebrated Larry's birthday and my dad's birthday. We also found out our profiles were actually being shown to birthmothers. On an emotional front, May was probably when I hit the lowest point I had been throughout the adoption process.

June-- June started off slow, as I was still really low. I celebrated turning 31 in a pretty low-key manner. And then we got the call that forever changed our lives....Teegen had entered the world. The latter part of June consisted of plane rides, bad fast-food and the most gorgeous baby girl I had ever laid eyes on.

July-- We started to acclimated to life as three. Larry and I were both off of work while we adjusted. Towards the middle of the month, Larry returned to work, leaving me to spend time with our daughter.

August-- Teegen smiled for the first time, I returned to work and Larry played Mr. Mom for a few days. Shortly after returning to work, I made a huge decision that it was time for a change and submitting my application for a new position.

September- Teegen started day care, which we all handled better than expected. And she also started rolling over.

October-- The fall brought our first professional family photos, Teegen' s first Halloween, starting rice cereal and a trip to the Pumpkin Patch. I also started my new job this month. So long to on-call hours.

November-- Well, November brought change! Finally! Teegen got to witness voting first hand, she showed her support for her candidate, slept in her own crib, slept through the night and learned how to blow raspberries with her lips. And I passed the exam for licensure!

December-- Teegen continued to thrive! She started on pureed veggies and fruits. I started making pureed veggies and fruits. Larry begrudgingly tasted all the pureed veggies and fruits. She discovered her tongue and blowing raspberries with it. Teegen also started laughing out loud...a lot.

What a year we have had! At the beginning of 2008, I would never have imagined we would be where we are today. I can honestly say that 2008 was my best year ever. I hope that 2009 proves to be equally as exciting.

Christmas in Rewind

Wow! I've been meaning to post about our holiday celebrations, but have been sidelined due to illness. Glad that is over!

We had a great Christmas and enjoyed spending lots of time with family. It was the first time in several years that I have not been on-call and I loved every minute of it.

People were more than generous to Miss T! Our living room is starting to look like Toys-R-Us. And it is so exciting that Teegen is starting to interact more and more with these toys.

In the days building up towards Thanksgiving, I've been quite emotional. Every time I see a commercial depicting family traditions or special events, the tears start coming. And more times than I can count, I have just held onto my sweet baby girl and told her how thankful I was for her.

I have so much to be thankful for this year. Much of it has not changed since last year. I'm still so thankful to have an incredible husband who has really been a rock for me to lean on over the last year, and has turned out to be an amazing father who is so in love with his girl. Still have a great dad, who has turned into an awesome Pop. Still have great siblings and their respective spouses. And while we may not get to be around one another as often as we would like, the love and connections we have are still strong. Last year, I was thankful for my two nieces, Hannah and Sophie. I am so proud of them and so thankful to have been blessed with niece number 3, Annagrace in January. And I would be remiss not to mention my closest friends --you know who you are-- who managed to keep me sane the first part of the year and helped out tremendously during the last past of the year.

I have been thinking a lot this week about Teegen's birthmother and what she is doing this time of year. Without a doubt, one of the things I am most thankful for is the decision she made. What a gift!

And of course, I am most thankful for the beautiful baby girl we get to call ours. What a journey we have had! She has a shaky start in life, but has come so far and is growing and changing in leaps and bounds.

Five Months...Already?

Last Sunday marked Teegen's fifth month of life...wow! I'm amazed at how time has seemingly flown. I am amazed when I look back over our journey and realize that this time last year, we were torn between staying with the Vietnam program or exploring our other options. What a journey this has been! And we wouldn't trade one minute of it.

There are times when it seems like just yesterday when we met our girl in the NICU, hooked to a monitor, looking so tiny. And there are also times when I can't remember what our lives were like without her. Each day, she brings so much joy into our lives and laughter as well. What an amazing soul she is!

Enough with the sap...on to the update...Teegen has changed so much in a month!

Loves to eat rice cereal and oatmeal...loves to blow raspberries....loves to blow raspberries while eating cereal.
Is starting to interact with her toys and loves her Exersaucer
Has mastered the art of the Jumparoo...I think that she would jump for days if we let her.
Will fall asleep almost instantly when riding in the car
Rolls over like a pro...she might be able to medal in this.
Loves music!
Has discovered that she has feet and loves to play with them.
Sleeps through the night most nights. And yes, she is sleeping in her own crib.

But perhaps the biggest news of the last month is breaking news! As in breaking through Teegen' gums news. Larry and I both noticed that she has been drooling, chewing on her fingers and pretty fussy at times recently. When I picked her up from day care this afternoon, I just happened to feel around in her mouth. I was expecting soft gums, but instead was met with something sharp...a bottom tooth! There is just a little bit there right now, but I'm already working on a picture.

Early this morning, while checking my email, I discovered a really great deal on photo Christmas cards. A deal so great that there was no way I could pass it up. So I thought to myself, "You don't have anything else to do today, why not shoot your Christmas picture." And about that time, Teegen must have been thinking to herself "Whatever you do, don't smile for Mommy this morning."

Relaxing on Sunday

What a busy week we've had. Actually what a busy last few weeks we have had. Some of you know and some of you may not, but I started a new job three weeks ago. And I love it! I get to work with a great group of people, and I'm not required to work nights, weekends, holidays or on-calls. I'm so excited about this new adventure.

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to:

Resolution #2: Really start an earnest effort to work on my counseling license. I've got almost all of the requirements, but the paperwork makes me shudder. However, if I can complete an adoption paper chase, than I should be able to do this.

I'm so happy to report that on Monday, I passed the exam for my counseling license. I'm just waiting on the piece of paper declaring me a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Teegen had a few big moments this week to! She slept through the night every night this week! Usually from 9:00 pm until 6:00 am. She got to go with both of her parents to vote. She sat in a high chair and ate both oatmeal and rice cereal. She got to participate in her first school fundraiser --Cookie Dough anyone?-- and she learned how to blow raspberries. I am working on uploading video of that. I'm trying to figure out how to post videos! If anyone can help me out that would be great!

When we tried rice cereal a little while back, it was pretty much a flop. Teegen hated it. But tonight we tried oatmeal...which she could not get enough of.

We successfully survived another Halloween at our house this year. We had a record number of trick-or-treaters, probably close to 450 little goblins. There were lots of cute costumes. But probably my favorite was an entourage of Batman characters, even though the guys were probably well over 16. The evening was pretty uneventful, with the exception of when I pulled out a crown thanks to a rogue piece of licorice.

Tobie the dog was excited because this year she could skip the costume. Instead I think that she laughed silently as I struggled to get T into her costume. She didn't fight the costume and I think that she is the cutest Puff the Magic Dragon ever!!!

Yesterday we were given the green light to start Teegen on a little rice cereal. Here's the outcome! Not too pretty, but she seemed to enjoy it, laughing a lot during meal time!

Four month stats and some firsts!

Teegen turned four months old last week. Can you believe it???? She is getting so big and developing such a sweet personality. Here are some snippets of information about our girl:

Weighs 14 pounds and 14 ounces and is 25 and 1/4 inches long
Loves to smile
Can roll over from back to front and front to back
Is fascinated with her hands
Loves her bouncer chair
Appears to be working on her first tooth
Becomes more and more vocal each day. Her new favorite sound is "ahhhhhhhh"

Two T's in a Pod

Early Saturday morning, Teegen and I hit the road, off the visit our friends Leanne, Ingram and Thorn. We had a great time eating, visiting, eating, playing, shopping and eating. This trip marked Teegen's first visit to their house.

Thorn, who is now almost 19 months old is so much fun. And it seems that he is smitten with Teegen.

We have had so much going on the last few weeks that it has been hard to blog. I sometimes feel like I can't catch up with everything we need or have to do. But I would not trade this time in our lives for anything. Teegen is developing such a fun personality...the girl is almost always smiling, unless she's hungry.

Here's a little glimpse of everything that we've had going on!

So...we've been busy!

What a great time we had in Blacksburg, visiting Aunt Ju Ju, Uncle Tab, Aunt Jilian and Uncle Todd!!! But I think that Teegen and Annie had the best time! Annie is growing, growing, growing and moving, moving, moving. Jilian took all of the girls to a local pumpkin patch and petting zoo, including the girls' first hay ride! Talk about dusty. I look forward to next year when Teegen and Annie are running through the pumpkin patch!

Larry, Teegen and I were lucky enough to have our good friend Kim squeeze us into her busy schedule to take our first official family photos.
